Lemmon prides himself on owning just about everything the Cabrillo Festival might need, or at least knowing where to procure the necessary object or device. He’s been collecting percussion instruments ever since the San Jose Symphony awarded him a position at 19 while he was still an undergrad at San Jose State. He was promoted to principal three years later, a position he now holds with Ballet Silicon Valley and Symphony Silicon Valley. Cabrillo is by far Lemmon’s most demanding gig. Playing the music itself is a challenge, of course, but his job is also physically taxing in the constant breaking down, setting up and rearranging of gear and in the variety of instruments he has to round up. He doesn’t keep a master list of everything he owns, which he stores in various locations around the region.

The McClung exhibit features 13 archival digital prints of historic or scenic locations around the world, including the Brooklyn Bridge and Grand Central Station in New York City, Paddington Square in London and Le Grand Palais in Paris. Curator DeWitt Cheng says that through digital manipulation she is able to “capture the dynamism of these public spaces as no static single shot could.” Rubio’s “Worldview” offers 10 oil paintings of coastal life, both in California and elsewhere. He says each “imaginary terrain” offers a suggestion of the topography of Northern California, sometimes other places.” Cheng notes that Rubio paints in a manner that calls to mind “Rousseau’s so-called ‘Egyptian’ style, derived from memory and imagination.” McClung’s “Visual Echoes” will be on view through April 30 at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC), 2575 Sand Hill Road, Menlo Park. Public access is limited, so interested viewers should schedule an appointment by going to Facebook.com/StanfordArtSpaces.
